Ohio State launches industry-recognized tech certification prep courses

The Ohio State University is expanding its professional development portfolio to help workers navigate an increasingly technical job market through a suite of industry-recognized certifications.

The university's Professional and Continuing Education unit is highlighting the importance of credentials that bridge the gap between traditional academia and specific technical skills. While long-standing certifications like ITIL for service management and Scrum Master for agile project delivery remain staples of the industry, Ohio State is now putting a spotlight on emerging frameworks like StrategyOps.

The recently launched StrategyOps Strategic Agility course is designed to equip professionals with the ability to align organizational strategy with operational execution. Unlike broader management courses, the program focuses on "strategic agility"—the capacity to harness artificial intelligence, analyze complex data and pivot quickly in response to market shifts.

“By offering these targeted industry credentials, we are ensuring our learners have the verified, high-demand skills necessary to lead in tech-driven environments and provide immediate value to their employers,” said Jessica Phillips, senior director of professional and continuing education at Ohio State.

Professionals can stack these certifications to build a specialized career path, keeping the Ohio workforce competitive in a global digital economy.

The shift toward micro-credentials comes as employers increasingly look for specific, validated skill sets. For IT professionals, certifications like ITIL provide a standardized language for service delivery, while Scrum Master certifications remain the gold standard for team-based software development.

Ohio State’s inclusion of StrategyOps aims to provide a similar level of rigor for those in leadership and operations. The online course includes the cost of the industry certification exam, allowing students to walk away with a credential recognized by global hiring managers.
